The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023, prompting reflection on its relationship with the British public.
While the NHS is highly regarded, there is a need for transformative changes in healthcare due to shifting global health priorities and advancements in technology. Imperial College London’s Self-Care Academic Research Unit (SCARU) is at the forefront of this healthcare evolution, focusing on empowering individuals to take charge of their own health and well-being through self-care practices and technology. SCARU collaborates with various stakeholders, including industry partners and device manufacturers, to develop technology-enabled self-care approaches and leverage data intelligently. The team envisions a future of “Self-Driven Healthcare” where individuals play an active role in managing their health with the aid of AI-managed data and personalized feedback. SCARU aims to shape the future of healthcare and provide thought leadership on this paradigm shift, inspiring not only the UK but the rest of the world to adopt self-care and technology in public health systems.
